Title: Motorists and Drivers Licences
Post by: twoiron on February 15, 2007, 04:10:42 PM
In recent times I've found myself wondering how people are getting their Drivers Licences.  Seems that people have no idea about road rules or what the hell they're doing when when they get behind the wheel.  I won't go into the various things that people do suffice to say I was almost involved in four accidents on the way to work through no fault of my.  Not even a wave to say 'oops sorry I messed up'.... just keep on going totally obvlious.

The only theory I can come up with is that Drivers Licences are now available with a McDonalds Happy Meal, where the were previousl found in the bottom of a Cornflakes box.....

Well....could your problem be that you drive on the wrong side of the road down there?

In my state you only have to answer 14 questions and if you get half wrong you still pass the test.

Then you get to drive around the block with a DMV employee who checks if you know which end of the car gos forward.

Most people here have no idea what a four way stop is nor do they understand what a continuous lane is.

OK, I'll bite -- what's a "continuous lane", and what would I do with it?

A continuous lane is where you can make a right turn with out stopping and after around 100 yards merge into traffic. It is very much like a highway merge lane.

The problem here is people will stop and wait for traffic to clear before merging with traffic and they are usually in front of me at the time they do this.

If the right side of the road is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Ah, cool, I think I've seen a couple of those around here.  Usually, though, right-turn only lanes around here are the stop-first type.

A year or so ago the Texas DPS put my two sons out on the road with DLs and they had never taken a driving test per se. All I had to do was swear that we had completed the 'Parent taught' drivers ed program.  [sm_bs] [sm_nervous]

It saddened me to hear of one girl who said that drivers education was stupid because it was all about dying. :(  She obviously wasn't "getting" why they spend so much time on being a conscientious driver. :( :(

Same with AA meetings. All they ever talk about is why they don't drink. Gawd, how boring.
