Also, if you use the "SMF Default Theme - Core" Theme, you won't have the unused spaces on each side of (the board.)

I don't get how it picks up your voice when the device is so far from your mouth.  And if it's super sensitive, why doesn't it pick up tons of background noise? 

Because the people using them are always talking so loud.
