Title: [Politics/Religion] These go to 12.
Post by: MFAWG on January 12, 2011, 05:41:20 PM
Blood libel (also blood accusation[1][2]) refers to a false accusation or claim[3][4][5] that religious minorities, in European contexts almost always Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.[1][2][6] Historically, these claims have – alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration – been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.[4]

The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. A few of these have been even canonized as saints, like Gavriil Belostoksky.

In Jewish lore, blood libels were the impetus for the creation in the 16th century of the Golem of Prague by Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel. Many popes have either directly or indirectly condemned the blood accusation, and no pope has ever sanctioned it.[7] These libels have persisted among some segments of Christians to the present time.

That woman is a certifiable moran. God, I hope she wins the GOP nomination.

I never knew what that was called.

I'm kind of sad that I looked it up. I fell for the obvious troll.

Well, yeah.

I'm hearing 'Anti-Semitic' thrown around. I don't think she used it as a slur, it's just an unbelievable, over the top statement.

She's so farked up, she has no idea what she says or what she means.

I don't think she meant it as a slur, but she's like a bull in a china shop. She is completely clueless and has no finesse. That the notion of her running for POTUS has even crossed her mind is just so embarrassing I'm almost feeling some sympathy for her. Almost.

The absolute truth is the media jumped the gun in pointing the finger at her, but putting that aside:

I don't believe for a minute she didn't know what a loaded term this was. It's really a pretty epic troll, and serves her purposes quite well:

She's throwing the gauntlet down to anybody who dares to even suggest that she tone it down a tad, including (especially?) anybody in the establishment GOP. Now the GOP has to handle her with kid *goshdarn* gloves, because:

It endears her even more to the fundamentalist Christians, and appeals to their persecution complex. We're talking about the kind of people who honestly believe that The Mooslim And The Homos are going to round them all up and send them to camps, which is what the term is all about.

OTOH, once you get the baby eating rhetoric started you've left the mainstream, and they will be hard pressed to ever take you seriously again.

She may have overplayed her hand, but I don't  believe she did it lightly.

She didn't/doesn't know what is a blood libel, strictly speaking.  She understands it as a false accusation, but no way she has ever processed its anti-Semitic basis.  No way.  That would have involved an education that she never undertook.

As for her political aspirations?  Assuming she had any, they are pure toast.  She's not a dark horse candidate...she's a dead horse candidate.  Not.a.chance.ever.  The Tucson shooting sealed her fate.

She'll march along leading her merry-band of 15percenters, but when push comes to shove, they'll vote a straight republican ticket, as they always do....no matter how insane they act.

And the NRC knows that.  They've been ignoring her gracefully for quite some time now.

I think she understands it as a percusor to even greater persecution of a group of chosen people. I'd guess (without looking) that it gets tossed around every so often in certain circles that she runs in.

The fact that it's use would be offensive to Jews (and not 'Faux Outrage' offensive. I found it's use DEEPLY offensive once I understood what the *fudge* she was talking about) may have escaped her.

That's what I'm saying.  The fundies are not just uneducated, they are woefully mis-educated, too (or else they wouldn't be fundies, duh).  They learn these as buzz words out of context or without really ever being taught their true meaning.

It's akin to a newbie coming into my industry and he's real proud of himself for saying 'intercourse' around the water cooler rather than '*goshdarn*' like he did before he started drawing a cherished Blader Industries, Inc., paycheck.

When in fact, he sounds like a stoopid newbie idiot for not using the word 'copulation'--which is the most precise word we can deploy to describe the act.  I mean, one can have many types of intercourse or even *fudge* in a lot of different ways--as in, "I really *fudge*ed with that dudes mind! Har!"--but when you wake up one morning and blurt out to the intergoogles that you LOVE YOUR WIFE! and participate in several bouts of copulation with her each week, come rain or shine, well, there is not much left to the imagination about what that means!

She really may be the stupidest person in American public life today, and that's saying alot:

Quote

"Just two days before, an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal had that term in its title. And that term has been used for eons," said Palin, a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2012.

"I think the critics again were using anything that they could gather out of that statement," she said. "You can spin up anything out of anybody's statements that are released and use them against the person who is making the statement."

I don't even... I mean, what....

WHAT THE *fudge* DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!!!!!

Playing the victim card is now the only move that she knows. She spends more time trying to explain what she said before than saying anything meaningful.

Now? It's really the only card she has ever played!
