Title: Bicyclists
Post by: Uisce Beatha on June 29, 2008, 09:03:27 AM
In the last couple of days I've encountered bicyclists on the road...

* Riding against the flow of traffic.
* Running red lights by riding the crosswalk as if pedestrians.
* Riding the line at 20mph on a 55mph road.

You see the latter all the time.  The road bikers don't like to be five feet to the right 'cuz of the gravel (buy some knobbies losers.)  I think it's very dangerous and they're not being good citizens of the road.  I guess it's been established they have a right to the road.  That's cool.  I just think they're asking for an up-close-and-personal encounter with something orders of magnitude bigger and heavier.  Strikes me as stupid.

Those guys with the silky clothes are the first to bitch if you get within a few feet of them too.  They don't consider you have to veer into oncoming traffic to avoid doing so.

LOL, and I'm going to start biking from the train station to work.  I'll post my rebuttal to this post in a few months.   ;)

Ugggg, don't get me started.

http://www.northwestskater.com/renton.html

This joint is located just past the end of a bike path that goes way up the Cedar, and has the only running water bathrooms for several miles.

At LEAST once a day during the summer, some assclown Lance Armstrong wannabe will just roll right through the center of the park on his way from the bathroom, no matter how many shredders, groms and old man barney's are skating. I mean, they NEVER look to see if it's clear, because EVERYONE shoud know that 'We' need to get the *fudge* out of HIS way, because he's got a $5,000 Mountain bike and tight shorts that enhance the size of his package.

I even had one of these bozo's roll into the little keyhole pool while I was STILL in it.\/

I got the last laugh, because trying to get around me he racked up himself and his bike pretty good, and I'll be damned if I was going to help his sorry ass out of the deep end.

Lay there and bleed, BITCH!

t/j Just had to say, I remember actually swimming in this when it was a swimming pool, early to mid 70's Mom playing in softball tourneys at the park, lil' Seamus doin' flips off the deep end, good times. flashback & t/j over.

Cyclists:

Thumbs up for contributing to a reduction in greenhouse emissions.

Thumbs down for being complete *bunghole*s.

Thumbs down for wearing lycra. Unless you're competing in the Tour de France you have no business wearing that gear in public!

I rode the bike up and down Big Cottonwood Canyon today. The cyclists like to ride two abreast so you have to go to the middle of the lane (if not across the center line) to pass them. This is especially sphincter clenching when a person on the way down is passing a group at the exact same place you're trying to pass another group on the way up. I also had a guy come way over into the center of the lane in a very tight curve. I'm trying to hold my lane, dodge the assclown crossing over the line coming the other direction, and not plaster this dip*feces* to the canyon wall.

Menaces, I tells ya.

We have a crowd of "racers" that zoom around the loop road that rings our business park.  They start around 1720 and roll 'til maybe 1830 at the latest.  Pricks NEVER ride less than two abreast, and more usually three or four across.  And that's anywhere on the road -- straight, inside of a blind curve, they don't give a *feces*.

I'm more than happy to share the road, but they make it difficult not to start hating bicyclists.

Not that I was looking for a fight but I'm blown away this thread has been so one-sided.

Those bicyclist jokers really are some hateful mother*fudge*ers aren't they?

I could add something about how drivers treat pedestrians with a few of my running experiences the past few weeks to try and even it out.

But I won't because I too see a lot of poor etiquette out there from cyclists.

I think the cyclists get enough bad treatment from the cars that they (cyclists) start doing *feces* in retaliation.  then the cars get pissed and do *feces*.  Then the bicyclists feel even more justified in being pricks.  You know ...

Vicious cycle.

I call BS.

I think that they want to have it both ways:

Treated as a pedestrian when convenient, treated as a motor vehicle when convenient. The convenience is all about them, has nothing to do with anybody else.

Or maybe they CAN have it both ways, and that pisses off the car-drivers.

Fair enough. I don't have a problem sharing the road.

Dropping into a VERY confined space with a 60 or 70 lb bicycle is another matter altogether...

Yup, and they fenced off the little ditch across the street we used to skate in.

Karma, baby!

ftr, i have no problems with the concept of bikes on roads, i think we need more people riding instead of driving.  i have no problem sharing.  i DO have a problem with cyclists who are on the road and DONT follow the traffic laws that apply to cars (weaving, running reds, going over curb onto sidewalk to pass, etc) ...
