It's always been hard on tires ('Car twice the weight, tire half the size') but NASCAR really missed the boat on this one. 10 laps on a set of tires is ridiculous... I'm not blaming Goodyear either: They build the tire BrianMike, Inc., DBA NASCAR tells them to. The problem (which became apparent on the 11th lap) is that they can't go more than 10 or 12 laps before the tires suffer a catastrophic failure and put somebody in the wall at 180mph or so.
