Title: Oh yeah, it's
Post by: MFAWG on July 27, 2008, 11:41:01 AM
Indy today.

A little sad that this has become the premier event at the Speedway, but Indy is still Indy, and IRP is still one of the premier short tracks in the country.

Maybe I need to move...

I beg to differ. (http://www.redbullindianapolisgp.com/)

Uh, isn't there a little race held at the end of May that's considered the "premier" event?

'Considered' and 'Is' are 2 different things.

Thus the sadness. Reunification may do something to bring the 500 back to it's former glory....

This has the potential to be the biggest debacle in a decade, if it isn't already.

Is Indy a restrictor plate race?

No, and there's no reason it should be. You HAVE to lift to get into the flat corners, unlike 'Dega and Daytona where the banking allows you to go flat out IF you have the line right.

It's always been hard on tires ('Car twice the weight, tire half the size') but NASCAR really missed the boat on this one.

10 laps on a set of tires is ridiculous...

I'm not blaming Goodyear either: They build the tire BrianMike, Inc., DBA NASCAR tells them to.

So I turned this on a little while ago and have seen more yellow laps then green. Great race ::)

It's a farking mess, that is for sure. Completely pathetic, and completely illustrative of all that's wrong with NASCRAP these days.

The have tires on site that will go a full fuel run.

The problem (which became apparent on the 11th lap) is that they can't go more than 10 or 12 laps before the tires suffer a catastrophic failure and put somebody in the wall at 180mph or so.

Gordon Smiley, Art Pollard,  Jim Malloy, etc, etc, etc...
