Title: Legacy, Broader Sense
Post by: Clive on February 08, 2008, 08:09:12 PM
When you go into the ground, what mark will you have made (or hope to have made) and on what scale?

I just hope people don't think I was an *bunghole*. Actually, *fudge* them, I don't care.

For one I don't plan on being put in the ground.  I prefer to be burned, not alive, perhaps have my ashes spread over Norman, OK.

I guess just to be considered genuine and sincere by my family and close friends.  Hopefully by then I will have helped some people get to where they want in life.  That's about it really.

If my grandkids cry, then all will be well.

For the majority of the rest, I'll be lying face down in the coffin.................................

Think about it.

Cremated here too. I once thought burial at sea but I have decided against that. Don't know yet where to spread the ashes.

Going to go the shotgun route and have them shot out of a shotgun? ;) (Been done before. ;D )

Revitalization and sustainment of the aluminum and glass recycling industry, on a grand scale.

It is my hope that my life would be said to have glorified God by reflecting the characteristics of His son, Jesus Christ.  Secondly, which also would have been included in the aforementioned, would be that those around me would know how much they meant to me, that they were special to me and I loved them.

i want to be the oldest man in history.  [sm_devil]

seriously, my children are my legacy. not what they will have or do, but who they are personally and the traits the the wife and i have instilled in them. we have raised 2 of the most respectful children you will ever meet. not just my opinion, everyone tells us. they work hard get good grades and respect other peoples property and privacy. i could only hope that they continue that linage.

as far as myself, i couldn't careless if anyone but my family remembers me when i'm gone.

Wish I could say I would have one, but the marriage and kids thing seems to be escaping me.  I don't have regrets mind you, I had opportunities, but I made the right decisions in ending the relationships.  Better to be single than with the wrong person.

So, my legacy will have to be......  my impact on my nephew I hope.  I don't get to see him a lot as they live in Florida, but he's 11 now and still calls me his best buddy - counts the days until I visit, etc.

That or just playing golf, soccer, and drinking until they drag me away at the ripe old age of 97, kicking and screaming.

Thank You Hobbit!  :)

My legacy is living a life by the golden rule, and I tried to make people feel better walking out of a room than they did when they walked in (insert joke here).

The scale is probably determined by those that are left.

Ps. Ashes here too, the wife knows to spread them on a golf course, preferably St. Andrews.

By happy coincidence, today is the 199th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birthday!!!

Talk about leaving a mark on the world!!!

No, I can't say as I've had my Darwinian moment.  I've had my share of successes, but also failures.  But I haven't given up.  Time remains!!!

Because it is Chuck's birthday, let's use it to try to dispel at least one big misunderstanding about what his work really meant.

Here is a quote from him:

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

That, my friends, is his Theory of Evolution.

Period.

That's all he was saying.

I'm totally with ya. Or him.  Or both, whichever.   Take me.  Just like a dinosaur, I had to adapt, and over come.  Well I guess they didn't but I did.  Take the New Coke debacle, and the Garth Brooks Chris Gaines phase.
I'm not the biggest or strongest either, but I'm as adaptive and resilient as LaToya Jackson.

I don't think Darwin came remotely close to contemplating La Toya Jackson.  She pretty much breaks the idea of ****ual dimorphism.

Not saying you're like that though.  I think your plumage is very pretty.
