Title: NASTrucks Question.
Post by: stroh on July 21, 2008, 11:35:32 AM
At lunch today they had the Speed channel on showing some Craftsman truck series race.

I was amazed how many names I recognized.  In fact, I believe Kyle Busch was leading.

Rusty Wallace, Mike Skinner, etc.

So what's the deal?  How much do these guys race?  Everything they can?

I knew a ton of guys would race the Saturday Busch series race, and then race in Sundays Winston Cup race, but I didn't know they went to NASTrucks too.

Or do I have it wrong?

Plus, what are your thoughts on guys running both Nationwide and Sprint races?  Doesn't seem like it happens in any other sport.

depends largely on if the truck race is near the regular races. most of the truck drivers are has beens from the nascar circuit. but there is those guys that will race anything anytime anywhere.  ;)

by the way, my "official" position,  ::) is the big boys can run nationwide or truck all they want if there are spots open, but the points should only go to the regulars on that circuit. the nationwide is meant to be a training ground for nascar but is always clogged up with the big boys. nascar likes it because the big names are a draw, but if you 20 guys sucking up spots in the race your basically just putting guys out of a job to get your jollys.

I think sponsorship has a lot to do with it.

Kyle is a perfect example of that, at least this year. He's had 3 race weekends a couple times where he has had to fly from one track to the next usually just getting there before the green flag drops. that means the first time he gets behind the wheel of the car is at race time.

I see these guys race dirt track during the week sometimes.

Off weekend for Cup this week, so alot of regulars were poaching whatever they could.

Racers race. If you can race something that's fairly similar to what your regular ride is, that's good, or you can do what Tony, Kasey and Ken Schrader do and run a dirt late model or Sprint Car somewhere.
