Title: Ich-ee-ro
Post by: gleek on June 03, 2009, 08:14:21 PM
After last season's .310 batting average, I thought that his better days were behind him.

His streak is now up to 27, and he's on pace for 250+ hits for the season. It's the shame that the M's couldn't build a team around him. Now there's talk of the Yankmes trying to steal him. That would be a *goshdarn* shame if that were to occur.

I wouldn't blame him for asking for it.

Junior wasted a career there doing the same thing.

The Japanese ownership of the Mariners aren't going to ship   Ichiro off to the Yankees, ever.

Period.

One of the great thrills of my life was watching Ichiro get a clutch, late inning single on a full count. The pitch was up around his eyes and at least 6 inches outside.

I might have jinxed him. He's 0 for 3 tonight, and the 5th batter is due up in the 9th. Since the game is tied, there is a chance that it goes to extra innings though.

Well, streaks over. Ichiro was the last out in the 10th.  :sad3:

[Rant]

Seriously, our local sports shock jocks might run the guy out of town, mostly because he prefers to speak through an interpreter and then not very often. He also has the unmitigated gall to take extra batting practice before games. He's one of the greatest to ever play, and these *goshdarn* losers bitch because he does the same thing Ted Williams and Tony Gwynn were lionized for their entire careers. 'Pad Numbers' my ass, he plays on one of the suckiest teams in all of American sport with no hope of release. His numbers are pretty much the only hope he has of leaving a well deserved lasting mark on the game. [/Rant]

I like pie!

After blowing the streak, he's gone 5 for 8.  :o

No *feces*:

Tomorrow I will be inundated with the local shock jocks bitching about how he isn't 'Clutch' and 'Only Hits When it doesn't Matter' etc, etc ad nauseum.

He's now 10 for 20, including 3 doubles and a triple, since the streak ended. He's also now leading the league in BA at .360. The sad thing is that he has just 1 RBI during that span. Talk about having zero fire power at the bottom of the line-up.
