Title: Re: icebox Post by: Fuzzy on February 11, 2008, 10:53:44 AM The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota, fell to a record 40 below zero Monday, just a few days after the northern Minnesota town won a federal trademark making it officially the "Icebox of the Nation."
Nice timing. Title: Re: icebox Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on February 11, 2008, 12:02:48 PM Note that it was -40º without wind. I think I'd rather have that than -40º because of the wind, at least then it's not being blown into your face (or messing up your hair ;D). Either way, it's on it's way to cold. However, if you prepare for such temps before you go outside, it's not all that bad.
Title: Re: icebox Post by: Uisce Beatha on February 11, 2008, 12:08:48 PM I just learned this recently. Airliners don't fly extremely northern routes in the winter as jet fuel congeals at something like -26 C. Over the arctic circle. At 36K feet.
Or you can have -38 C on the ground in Minnesota in January. :P Title: Re: icebox Post by: stroh on February 11, 2008, 12:09:18 PM In your face FRASER, COLORADO!
