They'll probably settle for Tom Watson a.k.a. Biggest Story in World Sport Evar.

It would be cool for Watson to keep this up. Wasn't a huge fan back in the day but it will be fun to watch.

I've always liked Watson.  One of my favorites.  Possibly passed Freddy as my absolute favorite when I read Caddy for Life.  By every account I've ever read/heard he is an incredibly nice guy on top of all that talent and magnificent résumé.

as great a story as Watson would be, I'm pulling for Goose .   Majors need him returning to form.

Watson leading, John Daly T14, Harrington T64, and Woods misses the cut? What kind of *fudge*ed up Bizzaro world did we teleport into?

He's generally played the back 9 better than the front. So...

Westwood gives one back. History has not been kind to Englishmen in this event. Nick Faldo is the last to win this event (17 years ago).

Watson gets one back! 3 tied atop the leaderboard.

Everybody crapping his pants! Watson sole leader again!

Cink with a clutch birdie on 18 for a share!

A par wins it now. Watson sitting comfortably on the 18th fairway.

Nutted an 8 iron that rolled through the green. Needs a decent chip to save par, but the crowd and the announcers are acting like it's already in the bag.

He goes with a putter and leaves himself with a knee knocker!

Why does Stewart Cink hate old people? He should just let Watson win.

OMT! Cink and Watson both in potbunkers after great drives!

Title: Re: [SPOILERS] Open Championship
Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 10:50:44 AM
Cink out of the bunker about 10 feet away. Watson about 40 feet away.

Watson slices into the junk on the 2nd playoff hole.

Title: Re: [SPOILERS] Open Championship
Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 11:01:10 AM
Watson pitches to 8 feet. Still has a chance to save par.

Watson's putt on 18 should go down in history as one of the most embarrassing chokes of all time...  not so much that he missed it, but.... damn, it was so bad you just had to laugh at it.

Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 11:04:23 AM
Watson can't make any putt inside 7 feet.

DOA rough left , 17
tourney over

I think Watson needs a nap. He's spraying his shots all over the place now.

Title: Re: [SPOILERS] Open Championship
Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 11:14:49 AM
Watson should have hit his 2nd laterally to the fairway and gone for the green on his 3rd. He played that like an amateur.

Title: Re: [SPOILERS] Open Championship
Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 11:17:13 AM
Watson way short from 137. Game over unless Cink *fudge*s up his scorecard.

did dopinzger really just say that was for a 3 shot lead?

Title: Re: [SPOILERS] Open Championship
Post by: gleek on July 19, 2009, 11:24:41 AM
Cink should play this entire hole with a 7 iron.

Well, Watson will still walk away with $800K+.

Agreed.  Had he gave it a solid run, burned the edge and left it 2-3 feet past the cup, it is not a choke.  But that weak-ass wipe at the ball was sad.
