Aargh, I've been looking for our roasting pan all morning.  Just found it.  I'm behind schedule on the turkey.  [sm_confused1]  I shouldn't have taken that break to make coffee and scrambled eggs.

Just me, the wife, and the beagle today, though, so no time pressure. :D

Since we didn't actually plan to "have T.G" we didn't really prepare.

We are going really basic.  Plain butter and poultry spice rub, with some carrots in the roaster.

I have never tried a "fried" one.  I would like to.  I just can't see buying the contraption for once maybe twice a year.

p.s.  First can open at 12:16 CST  ;D  (easier to watch that Miami game)

can of strohs?  cranberry sauce?

It's only 10:32am here, so I haven't started yet.  But there were three bottles of wine purchased in the last week here (a pinot, shiraz, and chardonnay).  And I only expect one of them to survive till the morning. ;D

Hmm, the sites I've been looking at have this cooking time (unstuffed):

20 to 24 pounds -- 4 1/2 to 5 hours

In previous years when I've done this, that's been about right.

nope, dont think so, it was great other than maybe being the slightest bit overcooked.  maybe 15 minutes less next time.

it was hard to judge, we haven't cooked a bird in this oven before.
just went by the directions....

Of course. I already have a *feces*load of stuff to wash, extra cups for soft drinks would just make it impossible! :p

Started feeling ill at the 'rents and had to come home. (There's a nasty flu going around my office, I'm afraid I'm its next victim  [sm_disgust].) So instead of being in bed with a hangover tomorrow, I'll probably be in bed with this. Happy Thanksgiving to me.  :sad3:

last time i was that sick with the flu, i ended up with a $20k 3 day hospital stay.

i'd rather go shopping and get about $1000 of *feces* for $300

Inject it w/ cajun butter seasosing and fry it in peanut oil.  You'll never go back to baking a turkey again.  And it only takes 4-5 minutes a pound to cook.

That sounds good.  I've heard great things about frying turkeys, but I've yet to taste one.

Day 2: Our turkey carcass is now boiling away to make soup.
