Title: Computer Knowing Stuff Type Guys.....
Post by: stroh on September 01, 2009, 07:42:10 PM
Can I get a website, buy this deal from  http://craigslistclones.com/  and get something up and running?

Or is it a bad idea?

TIA.

[edit:  I want it to be completely local to MN   That's part of my marketing strategy.]

LOL  niche/kitsch stuffed sheep dolls.   Can't miss!

Seriously though,  with all the time I've spent on craigslist lately, I'm amazed/overwhelmed at how big it is and how fast it moves.  And that's just the Mpls. site.    I post something on appliances or furniture, and in one day it's on page 3.  No chance.

My idea is to play on two things.  One:  How big/fast it is;  strohslist will be much smaller, your stuff won't get burried so quickly.  Two:  Take advantage of just how big and scary craigslist is;   Tons of people avoid it simply because of the bad press.  craigslist killer et al.

stroh is a name you can trust.  ;)

I cruise the casual encounters section of strohslist.  Maybe even the fleshlight forum.

The "get a website" part might be more involved than you initially think.  You'll need to find a good (php) webhosting company. (put time into the research, a bad hosting company will make life hard)  Also, register a domain, and point it to your site (that part is easier).

Looks like they also provide hosting for $10/mo, but I don't know how much control they'll give you.

I suspect getting the site up and running will end up being 5% of the work.  The harder part will be marketing and attracting users aka:

Step 1: Build website
Step 2: ??
Step 3: Profit!
