Using a dog to search for/sniff out suspected criminals/criminal activity:  Fine.

Using a dog to chase down, attack, and subdue a suspected criminal:  Cruel and unusual.  Should be outlawed.  Why not put a grizzly bear in a cage with a suspected criminal for a confession?

Bottom line:  They sent a dog after a guy to fight.  They fought.  The dog got hurt. 

Too *goshdarn* bad.

stroh's dislike of dags aside,  IIRC in most places if you shoot a K9 officer, you get the same jail sentence as if you shoot a human officer.  if that's the case, then it seems hypocritical to then rule this injured K9 as a "piece of equipment"
