Can someone explain how USC, who lost to Oregon State, can be ranked above Penn State, who kicked the crap out of Oregon State?

Standings

After watching Penn St. a few times this year I believe USC would kick the *feces* out of them. The Big 11 Ten is bad this year. They barely beat Ohio St. and USC made OSU look like a high school team.

I wish the BCS would go away and the top 8 would have a playoff. I think any of 5-6 teams at the top could be #1.
