Man dies in accidental shooting

A man has died after being shot in the leg apparently when his rifle accidentally discharged in Victoria's alpine region.

Police believe the man, aged in his 50s, was driving in his car near Omeo with a loaded rifle that accidentally discharged, striking him in the leg.

The man was found by a relative early on Friday morning who went to check the property when the man was late returning.

Police will examine the scene this morning and prepare a report for the coroner.

I accidentally discharged in Victoria's alpine region once.  Boy, was she ever so pissed off.
