A worker was pinned for nearly an hour while removing a magnetic resonance imaging machine from a medical facility in Elk River this afternoon, police said.

The man, a 43-year-old from Faribault, Minn., came away with various injuries inflicted while trapped under the 2 to 3 tons of the inner workings but is expected to survive, said Elk River Police Chief Jeff Beahen.

The incident happened at Twin Cities Orthopedics, which rents space from a Fairview clinic, Beahen said.

The man was there to remove one MRI machine and install a new one, when he became trapped, the chief said.
