All in one. Just got off the phone from my appeal hearing on unemployment benefits. Previously denied. Conference call with the judge, myself, HR director and former manager. I think I did ok, and I don't think they presented their case as effectively as they had hoped. We'll see. Very uncomfortable*.   *Not the least of which, Karen works for the same company, this has been very hard on her, going to work everyday and facing those people, plus my former manager is now her direct boss. They better not take this out on her. |

That was exactly why the first thing i asked was whether you were laid off or fired when you were let go. They say the burden of proof is on the employer...  I had no idea your wife works in the same place, that really sucks.  |

They've been pushing "Misconduct" from day one, and through the electronic fact finding(which is really biased and gives you very little room) they have been successful. What I did was not misconduct, and I think that came through today.
I think the real reason they are fighting this (they are a multi-million dollar operation, wtf do they care about 14k in unemployment benefits being paid out) is that I was fired because I made too much money, and forced attrition. They are closing an office, and have to place 5 technologists, somebody had to go. They chose me.
I think they initially thought I would feel guilty about being fired, and think it was all my fault, hang my head, and move on. If I did put up a fight, they would counter, because, if I get a decision in my favor, it clearly paves the road to wrongful termination.
They have fired a lot of people, and everyone, until me, has deserved it. Stealing, altering timecards, etc. I think they are standing on their bully front thinking: No one else has challenged us. Try it.
Well, I am. They fired me for no reason. Real reason that is.

They recruited me, I turned down their offer 4 times, and on the fifth, I walked into my bosses office, and said can you match this? When the laughter died down, I slid my resignation letter across his desk. Karen and I never worked at the same office. They wouldn't allow it, and I wouldn't have done it. |
