Wow. Just wow. 4 great choices, and didn't like a single version.

Out of those, I'd take the Them (Van Morrison) very, very slightly over Dylan's.

Eric Burdon will always be the man who ruined 'War'.

I've never heard this song before. (I lead a sheltered life  Sad)

Definitely prefer the 2nd version on the list (looks like I'm not alone).

Dylan's version wins hands down.  It's not even close.  There aren't too many cover versions of his songs that are better than the original.  Perhaps "All Along the Watchtower" by Hendrix.

I like the Joni Mitchell version.  I love the way she tunes and plays her guitar.

Them's version is good.  I love Van Morrison's voice.

The Gratefull Dead cover the song well, but I guess that shouldn't be too surprising.

I was a big fan of the Animals back in the day although I don't care too much for their version of this song.  In my opinon the Animals and the Stones were probably the top two groups that came out of the British Invasion.

The Springsteen version is the worst of the lost.  Too "jazzy", at least that's what the first couple of minutes seemed like to me.  I didn't listen any further.

The first is a great example of the young Bob Dylan with the pure voice.

Joni Mitchell's version is good, too.

Yeah, great topic. I'm actually trying to think of another minor Dylan song to do the same thing with.

2)  Dylan
3)  Joni
4)  Burden
5)  I didn't even listen to this version.  Not a fan of the boss.
