Rather than revel in Saddam's demise I find myself thinking of the 3000 and counting American service men and women that died before him, and will continue to perish after his hanging.  I think of what else could have been done with the money poured into this bungled war.

Saddam may have met the hangman, but he surely extracted his pound of flesh from the US before he died.

Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century.

I intend in no way to minimize the deaths of the soldiers in Iraq, American and otherwise ...  but my thoughts go to the more than 100,000 Iraqis killed under Hussein's rule and the who knows how many more who might well have perished had he remained in power.

Disclaimer: I don't support the War in Iraq, I don't support toppling a sovereign nation's government just because it's disliked, and I don't support the US having gone in without trying harder (if at all) to gather a real coalition first.

I sure know that I ain't smart enuff to word it any better than Mr. Persimmon did, so I won't even try, and I ain't gonna get in no pissing match over the death penalty. I tends to think that there are not a lot of people who are going to be losing much sleep over this sad, sorry bastards death, I however do think that there are a lot of people who will be sleeping easier.

Ain't no skin off my teeth what happens to him, but I've always lived my life by the law of karma, right or wrong, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

He ended up getting just what he deserved, his brutal, maniacal, murderous torturing sons got what they deserved.

I'm ethnocentric. Tinfoil

Seriously, I fully understand all of the heinousness perpetrated by Saddam.  He got what he deserved.  I'm not denying the silver lining. But, using such criteria, we should then be warring in many, many other countries of the world at this very moment.

The thought that bothers me is that I feel that GWB used our military men and women as pawns, and mortgaged our country's economy, to settle a personal score with the guy that tried to kill his dad.  That's what I believe this was ultimately about.  It wasn't about oil, nor WMD's, nor human rights.  Those were used as justifications, but all of those reasons existed long before three years ago.  This was about GWB getting revenge.
