Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

(And you get to stop rooting for the Queens.)

LOL They're moving to L.A. any way.

Brilliant!

Does that mean, if you move, that you're going interstate or out of town?

BTW Tigger is currently leading the Australian Masters at 6 under...

I've never been to Palm Springs.  Other side of the state.

My initial concern was with the Mrs. employment, but it sounds like it's not a showstopper.

If you do it, what kind of timeframe would you be looking at for moving, specifically with Maddie's school?  Would you move out first, rent an apt, while Karen sells the house and Maddie finishes the school year?

I'd probably fly out, check out the job and surroundings, and run some numbers comparing housing, taxes, etc.

That's the most likely scenario.  But those types of things, along with the concept itself is going to make for some tough decision making.

I dunno, my emotional brain is with gleek;  It's a no-brainer.  Good job, Palm Springs,  Come on?

My analytical brain, which is the one I usually keep suppressed with beer keeps piping up;  Seriously?  How could you possibly expect to pull this off and why would you drag 2/3 of your family across the country because you fell on some hard times?  HTFU?

Part of what makes this a tough decision is it's not really where I wanted to go.  Mom is in Vegas.  I've always wanted to go to Vegas, and Karen has a good friend that lives there.  I wanted to go back to Florida, but no job there either.  If it was either of those places, I probably wouldn't even have posted this, and just said load 'er up this is what we're doin'

So I think I have to decide is the job and career worth the move.  What if this exact job was in Mobile Alabama?  Would I be considering it the way I am now?

What are the longer term prospects?? Perhaps you do this gig for a couple years and maybe then get to Vegas/Florida.

I gotta say if it were me it would be damn tempting. But whatever you do make sure everything feels right. This is a decision not easily reversible.

Our day is coming. Enjoy the snow, done with the cold. Keep a tee time open!

Bingo.  That's the exact discussion we were having last night.  Long term outlook could be as good as I want it to be.  Very stable outfit with great growth.  OTTH, if after 2 years the other two say "We hate it, you did what you had to do to keep us afloat, things are different now, we want to go back home." (or a job opens somewhere else) That can certainly happen.

I feel your pain. 9 years ago I was searching and had to consider the family. Ultimately the family won out. Different time, different economic situations so it made the decision easier. It's hard for a kid to move far from friends. Happened to me before my senior year. Very tough for me.

That being said sometimes you just have to go for it.

With Facebook, Twitter, Skype, web cams, text messaging, and unlimited calling plans, moving to another state is probably a lot less of an issue for kids these days.

I spend 3 or 4 weeks in Palm Springs every late Feb and March.  Temps are in 80's in mid March.  I have been there in October and it was in the 90's.  Very LOOOOONG summer of 100 to 120 degree heat.  There is no shade in Coachella Valley.  Just sayin.
