Do You Carry A Knife? [edit] Why?
« on: December 30, 2006, 09:05:33 AM » |

At work, we have to "de metalize" people for their scan. Most of the time, it just involves telling people to empty out their pockets. I'm amazed at the number of guys that carry a knife. Not just the tiny pocket deal for getting dirt out of your fingernails; but most often a decent 3-4 inch folding/locking knife.
I have never "carried" one.(I personally can't stand things in my pockets at all, coins, wallet, especially keys.)
Never saw the need to. Including the newest fashion accessory to the 30 pack crowd, the Leatherman.

Only when I'm backpacking. I carry a 7" folding knife on my belt: My dad has always carried a small (like 2") pocket knife, and it's surprisingly handy, but I, like you, just don't like carrying stuff in my pocket.

Yes, it is only 3.5 ounces. http://www.knivesandtools.../en/pt/-sog-jetedge-2.htmSOG KNIVES - JETEDGE T hese fascinating and stylish hybrid foldinq knives combine a liner type lock, ATS-34 steel, carbon fiber handle, and an unmistakable SOG evolution on blade design. Carbon fiber laminates were developed for the aerospace industry which required maximum strength to weight ratios, hiqh tensile properties and all weather durability. This combination lends itself to making an especially rugged and light weight knife handle. The half serrated ATS-34 blades of the SOG JetEdge Knife are surgically sharp. ATS-34 is considered to be a custom, quality stain resistant steel that exhibits excellent edge holding, toughness and hardness. Unlike any other blade design, the SOG JetEdge Knife showcases new grind lines along with a "shark tooth tip" which generates exceptional point strength. SOG's preferred opening slot fits within the contours of the blade and provides quick one hand opening. A scalloped thumb rest increases downward pressure and offer delicate tip control for precision work. These unique features combine to make the SOG JetEdqe Knife one of the most advanced technical folders in the world today; for the outdoorsman as well a the professional.

No knife on me, I think I have a pocketknife in my car, though. I also don't like carrying things in my pockets. I'm down to just two keys plus bottleopener keychain and a minimal, fairly thin wallet. Plus the cursed cellphone when I'm not wearing a jacket. I think I may have contributed a little to distributing some Leathermans out there. I was looking for groomsmen gifts last year and searched FGI for ideas and I think Persimmon and QCngn suggested Leathermans. After realizing that "leatherman" didn't mean what I thought from those two, I went out and bought a few.
