Always enjoy watching a master at work.
« on: March 29, 2010, 06:34:20 PM »

Our General Manager is a former Navy Commander, and today I got to watch him use obscenities in ways that I hadn't really thought possible, LOL...

Long story short: One of our sales guys ordered a job using an industry term that TECHNICALLY has 2 meanings, but in common usage only has one.

So, we of course fabbed it up the common way, and when the customer came to pick it up, he said 'Oh, hell NO, that's not what I wanted', and we redid it basically while he waited.

Not a problem, except: Starting the first of the year, anything that is an inventory correction over a certain amount HAS to be cleared through the GM. So, this thing has been hanging in the shipping computer for 3 weeks while I waited for the sales guy to clear it.

Or so I thought.

I have to clear my WIP report before the end of the month, so today I go ask the guy:

'Hey, are you going to talk to the GM about this, because I need to clear it'.

His EXACT QUOTE:

'Well, you *fudge*ed it up, YOU go talk to him.'

UMM, well, OK, if that's how you want to do this.

Again, long story short:

I talk to the GM, show him the work orders, explain what happened, and ask for his blessing.

His EXACT QUOTE:

'Why am I talking to you about this? You guys did what you're supposed to do, I need to talk to (name withheld to protect the embarrassed) before I'll clear it. I've been waiting on HIM to talk to me. Now, go get him and tell him to get his ass in here, and you come back with him.'

Sooo, I go track this guy down, tell him we need to go to talk to the GM, and off we go to the office.

What the GM said was: I appreciate that mistakes happen, but this is a stupid and extremely expensive mistake, and I don't blame the folks that fabbed it EXACTLY THE WAY the work order says to fab it one bit. Furthermore, I don't really think you avoiding it and then sending somebody else to deal with it is very appropriate, and I hope this is the last time we have this conversation.  I would further remind you that we've had this conversation many times in the past, and I cannot emphasize strongly enough that we will not have it again.'

But the way it came out was:

'Listen, badwordbadword, badword, I saw this badwordbadwordbadword 2 badwordbadwordbadword weeks ago, badword. I kept badwordbadwordREALLYREALLYbadword waiting on YOUR badwordbadwordbadwordREALLY BADWORD to come talk to me so I could badwordbadwordREALLYREALLYbadword release it to  REALLYREALLYbadword shipping so they could badword clear it. But you tried to badwordbadwordbadwordbadword duck it, badwordREALLYEALLYbadword, and it's not the BADWORDBADWORD first REALLYREALLYBADWORD time, either. But it will badwordbadwordbadword be the last, I badword you not'.

I seriously thought the guy was going to cry.

What was kind of cool was this was not an example of 'Flying Off The Handle'. This was language used entirely for effect.

Sometimes I wish I could get away with talking like that. Unfortunately most of the people I wanted to say that *feces* to are higher up then me.

But I would probably *fudge* it up.

LOL, it wasn't JUST FBombs. It was really stunning combination's, although I did not hear '@@@@sucker'.

He was just pissed that this guy was trying to weasel out of his own mistake. If he'd have gone in as soon as it happened, there would have been words, and maybe a dumbass thrown in, but nothing more.
