No regrets at all adopting my pooch.  Wish I'd done it 5 years earlier.  What size dog do you have in mind?

LMAO, had read that.

I've been around dogs alot (pretty much every relative growing up had dogs), including personally raising and semi-decently training a very very stubborn and dumb Basset Hound (from pup) in the past (as a kid).   Sal on the other hand, has no experience really raising dogs, although obviously she's been around some people/friends dogs.  Since right now she's still looking for work and I'm at work a lot, she'll be the primary person the dog sees/knows so we're considering a pretty (generally) smart and obediant breed so she won't be overwhelmed with any training needed (we're looking to adopt a 2-3 year old).  Was considering a chocolate lab, or some sort of (favorable) lab mix-- old enough to be out of the total chewing stage, but not too old to learn anything needed.  Nothing bigger or more energetic (assuming she finds something it would need to be ok with being alone for the day in crate) than that would probably work out for us right now.  Don't mind giving it outdoor exercise before/after work to tire it out, honestly it would be a good excuse for me to get out more.  Basically I guess I was wondering if anyone had adopted and been lied to about the dogs past or medical condition etc-- that's all that had me worried, I'm not generally opposed to the adoption process, I'm far more opposed to puppy mills. Heh.

Dude, there is NOTHING more energetic than a lab puppy or juvenile. I'd consider a Golden if that's an issue.

I put 2-3, I obviously would lean towards the 3, and it would depend on the temperment/energy of the actual dog in question. That's the beauty of adopting a non-puppy if you deal with an honest agency, you know whether it has grown out of its extreme active phase.  I've been around plenty of labs, once they break that point they are energetic, but by far not the most energetic breed.  There's a reason I qualified it in that long post. You give them the exercise they need, and a bit of discipline, and they're fine with it.

Miss Kitteh says she will make you a HELL of a deal on the neighbors lab mix!

Only horror story I have is stepmothers current adopted German Shepherd, adopted as an adult. Not potty trained, severe seperation anxiety, the whole bit.

blader dog is a 4 or 5 year old purebred lab...she's well past her puppy stage but she is pretty high demand

her big thing is getting ~40 min of vigorous ball chasing exercise daily, sometimes more

she HAS to have a pretty intense exercise twice daily...it soothes her soul

she needs and demands the work...you are not doing that sort of dog any favors by short changing their appetite for work

she also sheds too much  omg!
