Yeah, the spammers seem to come in waves.  We had a bunch a few months ago, so I turned on the activation email requirement for new registrations, which seemed to work.  They stopped coming after that, so I took it back off.

I just put the activation email requirement on again, so we'll see how it works.

If that doesn't work, the next step is to enable the CAPTCHA to keep out automated script registrations.  I tried it briefly before, but I could never read it correctly and register a test account properly. (which is one way to keep out spammers, I guess...)
