Your first error was trying to apply logic and reasoning to the situation. Apparently you haven't been married long enough to know that only emotional responses are allowed. You needed to communicate how distressed you were at the current situation and how you longed to be by her side. Then explain that you would have driven 2 hours to provide assistance if only your Boss would have allowed you to leave.... unless you are the Boss, in which case you are $crewed.
