I love Mash.  It is responsible for shaping my life, and who I am as an adult.

Going into medicine.

The humor.  I am totally Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce.  With a sprinkling of Radar.

The drinking.

I loved M*A*S*H when I was kid.  Haven't seen it in years.

What are your top 3 episodes?

Mash, is a classic showed still watched everyday all over the world.
I actually prefer the earlier episodes, when the show wasn't so "p.c".

I think the actor, I think his name is Larry Swinburne, the one who played Frank, did a fantastic job.  I can still sit there and laugh at Frank, everyday.

What are your top 3 episodes?

My top three:

Crisis  -  Supplies are cut off, bitter cold weather hits, and everyone is forced to bunk up in the Swamp to save fuel

Deal Me Out - poker game is interrupted by Radar running over a local (Whiplash Wang), and Col. Flagg shows up because Hawkeye operated on an intelligence agent.

General Flipped at Dawn - Harry Morgan plays a looney tune General who is visitng the 4077th.

Seasons 1 thorugh 3 are classic. In my opinion with each original cast member who left the series lost a bit.  Replacing Burns with Winchester was the biggest drop off.

I watched the movie last night.  Although I love the TV show, and have probably seen every episode in re-run.  But, it's nice to watch the movie every now and then to see the original anti-war premise.

The book upon which the movie and the series are based is good too.

Reasonably, but not 100 pct, sure that the book came AFTER the movie, which is regarded a classic of cinema, and deservedly so.

It came out at the same time Catch 22 did, and absolutely buried it, even though Catch 22 had bigger stars, bigger budget, bigger director and bigger 'Push' over all. It may be a better movie, too.

The series became preachy and predictable after a couple of years, and by the end it was really little more than The Alan Alda Sensitive Guy Half Hour, featuring Harry Morgan, Jamie Farr and that fat guy that went on to guest star in everything from Star Trek, TNG to Matlock....

But the first 4 years or so are classic....

FWIW, there ARE lyrics to the theme song, it's the song they play at the dentists 'Ceremony' in the movie:

 Buddies Buddies Buddies

Through early morning fog I see

visions of the things to be

the pains that are withheld for me

I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN]:

that suicide is painless

It brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make

all our little joys relate

without that ever-present hate

but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play

I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat

And lay it down before I'm beat

and to another give my seat

for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me

to answer questions that are key

is it to be or not to be

and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless

it brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

The book was published in 1968, the movie came out in 1970.

Finest Kind!

I like how the song starts as a slow funeral dirge and speeds up to an upbeat tempo before the end.

The TV series was great for a long time, but really took a nosedive after Wayne Rogers and McLean Stevenson left.
