the meaning of this sight...
« on: May 16, 2007, 08:00:52 PM »

I was just wondering.... is this just a website for people who like golfing to voice their opinions on golf and anything else in the news?  If so, then why is the name of the sight and the different forums based on the story 1984?  I joined this sight because I thought it was a place for people who enjoyed the concept of dystopian societies and the discovery of such novels and /or movies.  Can the other members please fill me in?  It would be much apprecoated. Please and thank you. Smiley

Our fearless leader lost his virginity in 1984 and it's been all downhill from there.

Other than that, this place serves no purpose.

Apologies if I seem overly blunt, but didn't you look around at all before signing up?  Are there ANY discussions here of dystopian societies and the discover of such novels and/or movies?

Nah, we're just simple folk who golf occasionally and natter on about 'most anything.

You deserve a straightforward answer.

Most of us are refugee's from another golf related forum, and Dystopia made the 1984 themed mirror site to help some of the members around workplace firewalls and such.

That's about it. Sorry to disappoint.

BTW, what's your handicap?  Wink

We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week,  but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting,  by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,  but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major decisions.

And yes...what is your handicap?

And since when did we start giving straight forward answers, did I miss a voting meeting?

There's a long and complicated story behind this site... www.dystopia.com/research.  Essentially it is 'mirror' site for golfhos.com, for those of us 'proles' who for whatever reason can not access the main site during working hours due to seemingly nasty network administrators.

In some ways the 'mirror' site represents the concept of dystopian societies, in respect of freedom from oppression and what not.

But mostly your assumption is correct in that most of the material here relates to golf and anything else that members feel the need to talk about.

I could be completely wrong on this but hey.. it works for me..

Cheers

That is a good point, I pictured this thread getting to 2 pages before he got a real answer. Wink Grin

Welcome, Perfect Alias!

I see you did get one serious reply here.  In further explanation of MFAWG's post, this is a golf site - but not strictly a golf site.  You're probably viewing the site from the mirror that was set up.  Anyway, we like to talk about lots of things.  There are lots of references to movies and such, which if you stick around, I'm sure you will see for yourself (you'll probably also notice that a lot of it goes over my head and needs to be explained to me as I'm, um, out of touch with pop culture Cheesy ).  Stick around, I think you'll enjoy the friendly atmosphere and banter here - who knows, you might even start to enjoy golf (if you don't already).  And you can ignore Torpedo ( Wink - j/k ); he's just my annoying brother. Nope, you didn't miss a meeting.  I tried to be helpful not too long ago and, well, this is the reply I received.  So you're quite up-to-date with the standings around here. Cheesy

well, while the site does have a golf theme and a lot of member displaced from another golf forum, we also like to post about how 1984 is coming to life in the form of glorious leader chimpy mcflightsuit.   war is peace!   loving freedom is helping the 'terrists!

For which I am very thankful!  When his links were absent, I was sorely behind on the current news.
