Hmm. It's possible, as they won a lot of really close games and lost a few blowouts. I guess I have to trust the stat weenies to know what they're talking about.

well  , my curiosity got the better of me, and I clicked on the jazz schedule from cbs.

There's a 50% chance that's not true.

It would be very tough to win 62% of your games and be outscored by an average of 3 PPG. On the other hand, it is apparently possible to lead the conference in scoring differential yet finish in 3rd place in your own division.

Witness the Chicago Bulls, who finished behind Detroit AND Cleveland, but lead the Eastern Conference in scoring differential with a +5.0.  How did they do it? They beat Miami 108-66 on 10/31/06, beat Memphis 111-66 on 01/13/07, beat New York 98-69 on 04/10/07, and beat Washington 101-68 on 04/15/07--four games in which the opponent scored less than 70. I'm surprised I didn't hear about any controversy over the Bulls running up the score.

OTOH, the Spurs lead the league in defense AND scoring differential, yet they didn't hold any opponent to under 70 points. IOW, they probably didn't try to rub it in the faces of their opponents when the game was in hand.
