fischer travels and gets away with it after losing possession.
jazz holding for last shot...

williams takes it from the top of the key..... crossover right hand.... layin...

parker takes it right back up with a change of pace and draws a foul on williams and 2 freethrows

53-36  with the free throws pending.

2 seconds.

Just saw the box. It looks like the Jazz manhandled the Spurs on the boards, but Utah must have been throwing up some major bricks. They shot only 42% from the field to the Spurs' 54%.

The real difference was 30 PFs for the Jazz to 21 for the Spurs. The Spurs shot 13 more FTs than the Jazz. The Spurs should be worried about the horrendous 67% FT shooting though. They can't be depending on the Jazz shooting horribly and hacking so much in the same game.

I actually found the loss to be quite heartening. The fact that the Jazz shot 42% to the Spurs' 54% in FGs, trailed by 18 at the half (after being ice cold in the 2nd quarter), got absolutely manhandled defensively in the paint, had numerous questionable fouls go the Spurs' direction, etc. and still only lost by 8... well, I won't surmise too much from the results of the one game, but it certainly looks like the Jazz can hang in with the Spurs. If they can steal game 2, it's a whole new series.

stats belie the game a bit- a lot of those boards and low fg % are attributable to out of control tip in attempts on the offensive glass. sometimes they would be far better suited trying to control the board and work it outside for a better shot.  parker and finley/ginobli are the matchups that kill them (duncan is going to overwhelm anyone he lines up against)   that said,    jazz played with heart and guts to claw back into respectability after the 2nd quarter beatdown, and hopefully they will keep the series interesting.... and they will definitely be a top notch team next year with 1 more big player on the roster.
