A bill for services NOT rendered.

From the 'Only In America' department: This is a picture of firemen lounging while a building burns down. But wait, there's MORE!!!: http://www.kpho.com/news/13397618/detail.html#Gilbert firefighters responded to the blaze and made sure no life was at risk, but did not fight the fire under a town policy because it is in an unincorporated area. Instead, the Rural/Metro Fire Department went to the fire as a courtesy, but they came too late to save the home.
Rural/Metro officials said they'll bill the family about $10,000 dollars anyway. NICE!!!!!!

I can understand the not fighting the fire, the bill is a bit much.
There is something morally wrong here though.

Do you get charged for fireman coming to fight a fire in the USA. I don't know if they charge over here, I always thought it was free.

Yes. Every November. Right JohnnyChimpo? I know you can be charged for negligent fires under whatever circumstances. Lady here was charged for starting a forest fire on the mountain behind my house. She was having an unauthorized scrub oak burn on a day with 30 mph winds. I think there was a 10% "stupid" surcharge to boot.

It said it was a private Fire Dept so I guess it is a company that fights fires. Most of us live in cities with city fire departments paid for by tax dollars which don't charge unless I suppose you purposely started the fire in question.

You do get charged here... unless you have home insurance, then it's free. For a house fire the minimum attendance is two trucks at about $1000 a truck, for commercial properties three trucks are sent.
