i know here when it goes from 60ish to 90ish   I gain a club
i know here that a 110 foot dropoff is a 3 club dropoff

i based everything else off guessing around that.

My cousin hit an 8i.  Poor shot went left and rolled down the cart path but it landed roughly hole high.  He's a big hitter and the distances you post seem to jive with his.

According to the Google, which sucked, a quartering wind is one kinda coming from the side.  For what that's worth.

Uisce, I meant take two clubs less than the yardage normally calls for, then a 3/4-swing on top of that.  Should account for the elevation, the altitude, and a safe miss being short.  I'd aim it to the side some and let the wind push it back -- I wouldn't try to bend it to fight the wind.  Hopefully, the trajectory would be lower than usual, too.

I figured the hole to be playing at about 170 yards over level ground with no wind.  I hit a 6i.  Didn't take much if anything off of it; didn't try to kill it.  I really smoothed the shot and threw it very high up into the wind aiming at the right front of the green.  I figured there was no chance I'd go long enough to cause trouble.  I thought that with my slight draw and the wind it might come back but not enough to miss left.  I was very confident that putting it up there would cause the wind to knock it straight down and it would stop where it landed.

There was so much math going on I thought for sure I would over-think it.  I'm still not sure the equation was correct even though the result panned out.  I posted the question just to see the thought processes.  There was probably more going on on that shot than any other I've played in recent memory.  Very challenging.

I was able to commit and pull the trigger.  I think more than anything I have that to thank for the possible birdie / easy par.

Thanks for playing.   Grin

I'd probably hit an 8 iron if the wind was right to left and not hurting much.  I'd probably try and hit it hard and ride the wind with a draw.  If the wind was hurting more then I'd hit a 7 iron with an abbreviated follow-thru trying to get a slight fade.

I'll go with a smooth 6.
