I admit I know zippo about this sport.  Is it as big a joke as it appears?  They can't seem to find competitors who aren't jacked up on one thing or another.  Then you have some very squirrelly lab work involved.  The French seem to have a "we'll get you" attitude.  Top it all off with *8==>* Pound and his antics.  Cycling looks to be the most screwed up sport on the planet.  Am I wrong?

The 33-year-old Dane has been at the centre of controversy during the Tour since it was revealed he missed out-of-competition drugs tests.

No more of a joke doping-wise than baseball or football.  Cyclists actually get tested, and they are no longer being protected by their coaches/team-mates as much.

(Imagine if Bonds had to submit to frequent publicly-available random drug tests?)

heehee, *8==>* pound.

I was just thinking today about how screwed up pro sports are these days (with nba/nfl/mlb commissioners all dealing with various crises right now), but I agree that Cycling is definitely the most screwed up sport right now.

LOL  I'm sensing a definite theme to the board today.

Man in cell, pulling his chain.  Man "Milking the snake".  *8==>* Pound.

And yes.  Cycling has made a joke of itself.  Pretty much lost all credibility, if it had any as a sport to begin with.

Unfortunately, it takes a way from the achievements of Armstrong.(cheating allegations not withstanding.)

I don't think cycling is a joke, but the cyclists aren't the smartest guys. Of all the sports at least cycling is testing and enforcing penalties even against the "big" names.

Now, one can argue about testing methods but they seem serious about cleaning up the sport. Unfortunately, the participants don't seem to be as serious.

Tour de farce

LOL.  I'm sure the term has been used before but I haven't heard it.  Has to make the governing bodies of cycling cringe.  Ouch.

I don't know; I don't follow cycling as a sport.  I like biking for the exercise, not because it's interesting to follow.  Same with soccer.  I love playing it, but I can't watch it very long unless I'm there in person (and preferably know someone on the team).

I'm not usually prone to conspiracy theories.  I'm comfortable that men walked on the moon, and that Oswald acted alone.

But wWhen a French* rider or two is actually dismissed from the TdF, I'll begin to entertain the notion that this is not a conspiracy by the French-based drug testing to wean out the better competitors from other nations to elevate a Frenchman as winner of the TdF.
