Well, that's simply not the plot, even in the movies which are substantially different to the books.  In the books, Bourne is a tortured soul who bleeds and limps.  Fisticuffs abound not.

Back to the movie.  Movies are supposed to be fun.  The whole column exists as a vehicle for Bill to bring up Stiles' comments.
