Recent Posts/Active Topics
« on: November 20, 2006, 03:19:01 PM »

I was wondering how people usually view this forum.  That is, whether people use the "Recent Posts" on the front page, or the "Show unread posts since last visit" page, or just view each section individually.

I've been using the "Recent Posts" on the front page up till now, but that doesn't really scale well as there's more activity here.  I'm missing out on threads that fall off the front page.

So I'm thinking about creating a new Recent Posts/Active Topics page, maybe grouped by forum section. If anyone has any features they'd like to see in a page like that, let me know.

That would make for a pretty short list.

Heh, that's one of the things that I would have liked to have seen changed on FGI.  The "ignore user" functionality doesn't work that well over there.  Instead of seeing that an ignored user has posted in a thread with the content removed, I'd rather just see no evidence that the ignored user has posted in the thread.  Also, I don't think topics created by the ignored user should show up either.  However, quoted replies by an ignored user is pretty tough to implement, though.

Another feature which would have been interesting to implement over there would be an "isolation chamber" function, where an annoying user could be placed and, to them, it would appear they are posting and interacting with everyone as normal, but their posts wouldn't show up for everyone else. Awesome.  So "Twelve Monkeys".  I love it.

That would be great - you could even have random robot users reply with random smileys - visible only to the isolated.  No one would ever know they were in the chamber.

Ok, it's still kind of buggy, but here's my first attempt at an alternate Recent Posts/Active Topics page. There should also be a link to this in your "Message Box" at the top if you don't have it minimized.

I'll probably add the "who's online" stuff to the bottom of this page, too.
