I keep thinking I should read Pynchon but have never gotten around to it. I'll have to look into it.

well, it would depend on how familiar you are with reading the whole dense, complex, postmodern writing style

crying of lot 49 is the shortest and probablt the 2nd least dense (V).   gravity's rainbow and vineland are much longer and much more dense (but the best works, $.02).  i never read mason-dixon....
