...Gets to travel on a European vacation, but, there you go. It's kind of a working vacation, my SIL is a travel agent and she needs two people to be the travel hosts, we go for free.

The flight to Amsterdam may just do me in, but hey! once I get there the  Air quotes medicine  Air quotes is on every street corner, or so I hear. Walfredo, shoot me your street addy and I'll send you a "care" package from Amsterdam, as always if the man comes knocking on your door asking about a package from Holland with the name Mitch *Monica-spot* on it in the return address area, you know nothing.

Uisce, we'll be in Cork and Dublin and Belfast, can we get anything for you, say 'allo to anyone, drop off anything to your old IRA connections.  Smiley

It'll be fun but it will also be hard work, SIL's company deals mostly with the 60+ age group, I imagine I'll be lifting a lot of luggage to help the nice old lady's, cuz that's just how I roll.

Drink much? You overfed, long-haired leaping gnome you.  LOL.   Grin

Uncle-in-law in Blackrock (Dublin) but other than that Shannon, Arklow, Gorey and a lone cousin in Athlone.  I come from a long line of bogtrotters in Carlow and Wexford.  Not a big city boy in the bunch.

Have a great time.  Tour St. James Gate if you have a chance.  Take a through Dublin Castle where the nasty Brits did their most evil work.  If there are women involved they're gonna make you walk (shop) down Grafton Street so give Phil Lynott a wave for me.

If the Waterford factory tour is on the itinerary and you drop down from Dublin you'll go right through Gorey.  It'll be a mad traffic jam and you'll get 15 minutes to see about a mile worth of town.  That's home.  Doesn't look like much but there's roughly a pub per 50 residents.  So that's good.

Buddies Naughty Headbang Eek Dance Raise Hand Thank you Thank you

Seriously?

You could address it to the previous residents of my house.  That plan is pretty much fool proof I think.

BTW, looks like fun.  I'm way jealous.  Got a chance to do the backpack thing around western europe and my brother and I managed to go to amsterdam on two separate occassions.  Didn't make it to Ireland though so I'd love to visit there.

Yeah I was hopin' you'd be able to offer a few suggestions on sites to see...Thanks!. If there is a dead rock star near, I generally try to pay a visit,  a statue of Phil will do, my one regret of our Jamaica trip was not having the bollocks to pay Bob a visit, but a nice man (my caddie LOL) told me "You travel dat a way, wot wit da colour of your skeen, you not travel back dis a way young boss"  Sad

Dublin
  • St. James Gate.
  • Dublin Castle.
  • Trinity College (if you're interested in a peek at the Book of Kells).
  • Grafton Street (shopping) / St. Stephens Green (feeding ducks).
  • Temple Bar (good pints throughout).
  • Abbey Theatre if you're into that sort of thing.

Cork
  • No idea within the city and I'm not sure it'll ever get a day of my time.
  • Kinsale is cool.  Some money in that town.
  • I've never been but next time I'm having a look at the Old Head.
  • Blarney Castle is a compulsory tourist visit (especially if you're on a blue hair tour) but it is a peaceful place and worth an afternoon.
  • Fair warning, don't ask for Guinness in Cork. They're weird about their Murphys.

Belfast
  • You're on your own.  No clue!!!

I could feel hot flames of fire roaring at my back
As she disappeared, but soon she returned
In her hand was a bottle of wine, in the other, a glass
She poured some of the wine from the bottle into the glass
And raised it to her lips
And just before she drank it, she said:

Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl

No.  Sad  Now I kinda want to, but don't have the time.

Karen said it wasn't that great.  Kinda just like watching a couple of back to back episodes on any given Sunday.

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD.
