I need some help from the grammar/speaking police. Which do you usually use?
For example:
1) Michael Vick pled guilty
2) Larry Craig pleaded guilty

I guess I do a bit of interchanging where the past tense of plead is concerned, but I think I use "pleaded" more often.

LOL! I just had a conversation about this yesterday with my father, who is an attorney. His official position is that neither is incorrect, it's a matter of personal preference, and that both are terms that should be avoided whenever possible as it's a stylistic nightmare to conjugate the verb "plead" into past tense in the first place. Take it for what you will.
All that being said, I'll usually use "pled" because it's fewer letters and syllables, and I'm far too busy to waste time on superfluousness.

Pleaded seems to have become the 'Preferred' manner, and I'm quite certain that's within the last couple of years....

Yes, I suppose you could use a phrase like "he did plead" instead of "he pleaded".  |
