Didn't he? Stuart faced off with the Union cavalry on the 3d day 4 or 5 miles away from the battlefield, IIRC. This of course after being a day and a half late... Many historians seem to think that Stuart was just supposed to be a minor skirmish and not part of the grand scheme of things. (At least, that's the conclusion I come to when some of them are talking about how un-historic the book is.) And actually, Stuart didn't make it as far as the proposition had him coming. He got caught up with Custer and his calvary instead of hitting into the army.

You can figure it out. No pop culture on this one. No worries on the other. I'm the king of threadjacks. I often change the subject when conversing in real life too.

Ooooooh, I see the phrase now. lol Yeah, I always purchase the whole state fair. There really isn't any other way to go. Surprisingly, it doesn't set me back as much as you would think. I just can't figure out why I have to buy the thing every year.... I don't have a problem with threadjacks, but I know some people do mind so I try to stay on topic. Well, most of the time.

I guess I'll have to read the book, but I'm not seeing how whether or not Stuart was stopped by the Union Cavalry (of which Custer was a fairly lowly brigade commander) has any impact on how Lee lost the battle, which was the fairly incredible decision to launch a frontal assault against an entrenched enemy across almost a mile of open ground. This was a decision so ill advised that Longstreet almost resigned rather than have to give the order. Why Lee made it has long been a mystery, but not really: He screwed up.

But, regardless of the conclusion you come to, I think you would enjoy the book, if you read it.

Might be something wrong with the guys premise, however....

Sorry, didn't mean to jack the thread. It was an interesting subject.
Won't happen again.
Okay, I lied: It's an interesting subject (why Lee couldn't repeat his success at Chancelorsville a few weeks later at Gettysburg) but I'm really NOT sorry, and it will happen again.

Thus the reason the battle is so interesting. Lee could have won. Mistakes happen even on the battle field and timing is everything.
This is one of the battles that are taught at military schools and for just cause.
