Okay, here's the deal:

There are, of course, those who aren't fans of the genre who will say "no *feces* it sucked," but as a horror/slasher film fan, I really had high hopes for it, particularly given Rob Zombie's prior efforts. Mr. Zombie has now dropped several notches in my opinion as a horror film director.

The movie looks fantastic. The cinematography, the costumes, the effects, all very, very good. Lots of clever cameos, but really only meaningful if you like old school horror movies. The rest is absolute crap. The script blows, the acting is comical (even Malcolm McDowell who's usually rock solid is weak, and it's not good when the audience is laughing at what should be the most suspenseful parts), waaaay too much time spent on Michael Myers as a child and in the asylum. The first 15 minutes of the original is about 60% of this movie. By the time Michael Myers gets down to putting on the Shatner mask and hacking up the place, you don't even care anymore. Rent the original.
