[Edit]  I just realized I made the choices above entirely too difficult for Clive to choose between.

He'll never be able to choose between preening his pasture, and owning sheep.  What was I thinking.
I thought "preening the pasture" was the option for the ladies, what with bikini season and all.

I've never mowed a lawn in my life, being in socal and all there is no shortage of "help" in that department.  that said, i'd still call it a chore.

my neighbor would say hobby.  he's always in the yard and he mows our lawn from time to time just cuz he had the mower out.   Smiley

I hate it. It doesn't help that my lawn looks like *feces*. Too many trees, bad air circulation, and I live in an area that is notoriously bad for growing grass. Too hot and humid for the cool weather grasses, and too cold for the warm weather grasses. Just right for crab grass tho.

Same here.  I hate my *goshdarn* lawn but want it to look good.  My front yard is not bad but the back is sparse and full a crab grass and ground cover.  My yard isn't very big so i can mow it in under 30 minutes with maybe a bag and a half of grass clippings.  I have huge oak trees covering my property so I can only hope to grow fescue.  I try and oversead every fall/spring and such but it is difficult to keep it lush.  It is pretty much green all year round but I have to water it 3 times a week.  Didn't feel like overseading this spring so it thinned out this summer.  I'll be doing it this fall though.

What I hate most is all the leaves that fall on my lawn.  Literally hundreds of glad bags full every fall.  I pay to get that done otherwise I'd kill myself.  So until they come and clean up I make a few large mounds in the backyard of leaves like snow drifts.

No I have one but they don't work when you have that many leaves and my property isn't entirely grass.  I have a brick patio and bricked in garden and such.  I've tried running the mulching mower over the leaves and it just spreads them around while picking some up.  Works ok for the leaves on the grass but that is a small sample of the leaves on the property.  So it accomplishes very little in the end and is basically pointless.  I also have a leaf blower/vacuum which doesn't work that well either.  Too much broken twigs, dirt and such to do an adequate job in a decent amount of time.  I'd be spending days and days using all the tools I have to pick up the leaves.  When the lawn guys lay a tarp down and pile it all up and haul it out in an hour.

The number of bags full was just to give an idea of how many leaves we are talking.  A whole *goshdarn* lot to be exact. Grin

I grew up in an area of deciduous trees. Now I live on what is essentially the edge of the Pine Barrens, and I'll take leaves over pine needles any day. Every swipe of the rake leaves it clogged with needles, and they are so small they can get into anything. When I open the hood of my car in the fall, the engine will be full of pine needles. They're everywhere and they're a total pain in the ass. You can't use a blower to move them either; they have no real surface area and they tend to cling onto whatever they touch. They dig into the lawn so effectively, I usually rake up half my lawn in the process of trying to rake up the needles.

Sounds like a nightmare.  We have a few cedar trees but not much in the way of needles.  We do have some big ass pecan trees that drop pecans like mortars on our roof and yard and those string things they shed suck ass.

That would suck to have the pine needles because they'd surely get into the the ac system and cause problems.

That is Russell's job, he has a ride-on, and it usually takes him a few beers to get our lawn mowed.
