Yeah, me too.  Cut my teeth developing for Mosaic and still remember getting excited about the "GIF revolution". Tongue

We started the company in '96 with what we thought was all the expertise in the world.  Given that we were actually building web applications that year I guess we were pretty advanced.  Gawd, I abhor Oracle Web Application server.   Disgusted

The Wayback Machine is down right now.  I was going to have a look for some of my earliest work.  Maybe I should be thankful.

yep - I recall being at SIU when Andreesan was still a grad student at UofI working on Mosaic (our connection was via UofI).  I sent him some bug reports and such back in the day - then he graduated and this Netscape company sprouted up...  oh for the way back machine - I would have been rolling in it today  Undecided  Was never a big risk taker back then.

While being far from an internet guru, my first experiences were in the mid '80s with a Radio Shack TRS-80 model III with compuserve. I remember it was rather expensive for airtime, especially with the 300 baud modem, so much of the prep work was done with a program called TAPCIS ,(The Access Program for Compuserve Informaiton Service). You could cut down your airtime by inputting all your info into this program. Then it would dial, log on, perform the function you desired, and log off, so you could peruse your results offline.
More than that, I can't remember, because, as you can see from this, I am very old. Sad

In the late 80s I was stationed at Gunther AFB in Montogomery, AL.  Small base but something like 80% of all Air Force programmers were stationed there.  Plus a bunch of operators and civilians galore.  A buddy of mine was the single mail admin for the whole of Standard Systems Center.  He did this by himself in addition to his regular job.  You weren't allowed an email account unless you were a Lt. Col./GS-13 or so.  At least, nobody I hung out with had one.

It's crazy how far it's come so fast.

Compuserve was a closed system back then - twas not the Internet.  But its a nice geek story anyway  Grin.

BTW, my Compuserve connection back then was a 300 baud modem as well... on a Commodore 64  Roll Eyes

Hey, the pepsi page from '96 has buttons for realaudio and shockwave.

ROFL - Gopher!  I had to explain that one in an interview with someone that had little knowledge of what the Internet was.  My best resume fodder was springing an obscure acronym on them - LVDT.  Always got a question about that; was fun to discuss my electronics background  Grin
