Poorly conceived, poorly executed, and no good way out.  Easily the most foolish and tragic decision of the past few decades.

I can't think of a more costly fiscal blunder ever made. One has to wonder if $2 trillion could have done if applied to something more worthwhile than finishing what daddy couldn't.

Why do you all hate America and our soldiers?

Daddy knew better.  The entire thing would have fallen apart and degenerated into.... well, what we have now.  Sad thing is - Cheney knew better too - wtf happened to his brain between these conflicts?

Blind ambition served him well under both presidents.

Under the George I, it wasn't time-in terms of Xzhainee's still unripe political power-to make a move.  Xhaney was shrewed enough to know he wouldn't survive within the climate of that administration had he strongly advocated a Saddam hunt and kill; and may have even cooked his goose politically had he done so.  So he laid low to bide his time.

As Veep under George II, he'd consolidated his power much more strongly than as SecDef and it helped that he  served a fundamentally flawed president.  As we like to say in the copulation sector, the moment was right.

Whether or not 9/11, it is my opinion the Invasion of Iraq was fait accompli'.  It was only a question of when, not if, and 9/11 provided a convenient distraction.
