Got spammed via text

Could you introduce me?     

I get some on my work phone once in a while. Annoying to say the least.

You can turn it off at the provider but I don't think it's possible at the phone.  That was the gist of my conversation with AT&T.  "We can't remove you from the list.  The list is people who have text messaging.  If we take you off the list you lose your text messaging."  Since I needed text messaging for work I had no choice.  I still think there should be a way, a national DNC list or something, but I couldn't figure it out.

You have to pay for receiving one of those?

For the life of me, I can't understand why text messages cost so much. Since I'd assume they're on a "pulse" kind of signal (like in the early days of teh interwebs where you'd do everything offline, log on and send and receive messages, and then log back off), it seems to me that it frees up resources that would otherwise be tied up with phone calls.

I'm in the same boat as U.B., we use text messaging extensively at my work, so I gots to have it. I used to be pretty righteously indignant about the entire concept, but I'll admit that it can be pretty *goshdarn* convenient.

Ironically my wife will send me a message (via email or web site) to my phone at work. Of course my work wife does the same and I have to be careful what I reply to each.
