Don't Argue on the Onramp

DAVIE - Traffic is running smoothly near a highway on-ramp where a man and a woman who got out of their car to fight were killed when they were struck by another vehicle, authorities said.

The accident happened on the State Road 7 northbound ramp to I-595 a little after 4 a.m. Traffic was backed up in the area for four hours, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

The northbound ramp to the highway was completely closed and only one SR-7 lane was opened. The bodies and the cars involved were removed around 8 a.m. and traffic was back to normal by 9 a.m., Wysocky said.

Ramon Perez, 20, of Port St. Lucie, and Marie Mary, 36, of Lauderdale Lakes, got out of their car and fell to the ground in a violent struggle.

A northbound 2007 Toyota entering the highway from State Road 7 struck the pair.
