On topic, nothing wrong with a spike.  Scoring a TD is a good thing.  Celebrating should be allowed to some degree.

I don't mean there shouldn't be any celebrations.  I certainly feel like celebrating when I out-drive Kev, 'course he's using his 9i and I'm using my driver, but that's besides the point.

I just was wondering why spiking the football isn't being called.

With that being said, spiking the football should be a penalty.

Why?

Either you can use the football as a prop during TD celebration or you can't.  I consider spiking the ball a TD celebration!  It should be a penalty.

Sorry Teed, I misread your post the first time.  I agree with your take on the letter of the rule.

Having said that, I'm not sure where I stand on simply spiking the ball.

I actually like endzone celebrations.  The stupider the better.

It's one thing if an offensive guard recovers a fumble and scores on some improbable play, but I think you're average RB or wide receiver should take Vince Lombardi's advice and act like they've been in the end zone before.
