Beowulf [SPOILERS]
« on: November 25, 2007, 04:32:43 PM »

OK, I know I savaged Spidey III the other day and you might not believe this but I like movies.  Pretty much any movie.  Short of Eyes Wide Shut I can sit through anything.

So trust me when I say...

Run away from this movie.  Do not go see it.  Do not rent it.  Do not watch it on cable.  Do not even use it as a cure for insomnia.  I'd rather spend 20 agonizing years  studying Old English than watch it again.

Performance capture must die.

Heh, when I was in my twenties I used to pride myself in thinking that I liked most movies.  I figured that two hours being swept away to another world on the screen was better than most things I could be doing.

I don't know if I've become crotchety in my old age or the movie studios are churning out more crap now (or both), but I no longer have that positive attitude toward movies.

Oh yeah, obligatory pic:

LOL - I remember going to see Mystery Men with a group of friends several years ago, thinking - hey I can sit through it and find something to like.

I was wrong.  The thing was soo lame, I turned to my friend Kevin to comment on its lameness.... and he was asleep - in the theater  Shocked Wink

Another one to run from.

We went due to the badass, cheesetastic trailers.  It doesn't deliver.  Not at all.  The style is reminiscent of the Barbie movies my daughter watches.

The story suffers quite a bit.  Stays fairly true for about 80% but the liberties they take are massive and so it feels like more.  But in the end it's all about its performance capture presentation.  Worst.Format.Evar.

Sorry to doubt you, but I'm suspending judgment until I've watched the performance-captured Ebert & Roeper review.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

I didn't mean it in a Minnesota finger-point way, if that's where you're headed.

Is that a good movie?  I keep seeing it on the HD-DVD shelves but I know nothing about it.

Never mind.  I'm thinking of another movie.  Sci-fi flick available on HD.  Can't remember the name at the moment.
