Dish Network/ DirecTV/ or Comcast?
« on: November 22, 2006, 09:25:02 AM »

I think in January I'm finally going to break down and get cable or satellite and DVR. I'm not planning on any premium channels, and my needs are pretty simple. I want FSN, ESPN, The Golf Channel, CNN, Comedy Central, and the Cartoon Network. Laura wants National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet, etc.

Right now I'm leaning towards Dish Network as they appear to have the best pricing on the packages that have the channels that are important to us. It appears that I can't even get FSN on DirecTV without paying for their premium package, and Comcast digital starts at like $65 + the cost of the DVR service. It looks like I can get Dish Americas top 180 + DVR for around $55/month.

Thoughts/ feedback?

Your research/assessment is dead on.

I had both sat. providers, and will not go back to either one.  Dish tv really pisssed me off, custome service sucked, and for what we actually got..........meh.

Dish with PVR has lots of features, hell mine was 4 years ago, no tellin' what it's like now.

FWIW, I have comcast (analog) with no premium channels.  I get everything you described.  I didn't want to jump into paying for digital, hd, blah, blah, until I decided what exactly we are gonna do.

That was 3.5 years ago, and I'm still satisfied enough with what I have, not to change.

Knowing you, you'ld prob. like the sat. route.  The other thing I have with comcast is the bundle.  Internet, and Phone.  all one bill.  Don't know if that makes a diff. to you.

Comcast is my current ISP, so it seems like a no-brainer to go with them for cable too, but the package deals I found were for ISP, cable, and phone (which I don't need) and still ended up costing more than if I were to go with a different provider for satellite. No plans to upgrade to HD in the foreseeable future.
