Sad I too had that toy, and haircut, and use to watch every stunt. I remember the jump over the shark tank too.
Me too, the toy, the haircut, remember putting the cards in the spokes (schwinn-banana seat-sissy bar) so we could sound like Evels Harley (he drove a Harley didn't he?) and jumping *feces*, we jumped over everything back in the day, the dog, my sister, the neighbors kid brother, three deep, four deep, whatever.

He really was an American Icon, just don't think their will be another Evel Knievel, nah I'm sure, their won't be.

69 is too young, but his body was prolly like 106.

Evel rode Triumphs and Nortons in the 60's, then switched to a Harley 750XR, which was too heavy. So he started riding something called an 'American Eagle', which everybody assumed was a US/HD product, but was actually an Italian Laverda.

Why he was doing motorcycle jumps on flattrack bikes is one of the greatest mysteries of mankind.

He actually owned a Honda dealership in Moses Lake, and jumped the old Graham Speedway a few times starting out.

Good stuff.  Thanks!  I always assumed it was a Harley.  I guess 'caues of the #1 r/w/b on the front.

[t/j]  Flattrack is teh shizzle!  That's what my dad used to race.  If I was to race now, I would run 750 flattrack, although speedway bikes are maybe even cooler. Cool  Nothing like running 85% of the track wide ass open and sideways, with no brakes.

Been to a  couple of flat tracks, but it's a dying art. I went to the last race ever held at the Sacramento Mile, and the last one at San Jose.

Gene Romero's still out there plugging 4 or 5 events a year.
