sorry vikepedo, you haven't had the #1 run defense in quite a while. NFL.com says we do, no matter what football outsiders says. according to the nfl.com ridiculously simple total yards/game stats, the patriots running game sucks too . if you can't understand why more statistically detailed analysis is important... ... let's take an extreme hypothetical example. say you play 16 teams all of whom have NO runningbacks at all. you never defend a rushing play all year. according to nfl.com you have the best rushing defense. 0 yards/game. then you get up against a team in the superbowl who runs the ball exclusively. they are dominant at it. they run for 480 yards in the game. you lose. you still average a massive 30 yards per game on the year. yet you lost the game that mattered because you don't actually defend the run at all. but according to you and nfl stats you still have the best run defense, so you can at least enjoy that while mulling over losing the big game. |
