I can't believe I'm listening to the press conference on the radio. Anonymous

Got hit in the 'nads while here with the Mariners (line drive I think) he gets a free pass for life.

A lot bigger names on that partial list than I thought they would pull. The question for me is "OK so now what?".

Disclaimer: I seriously know jack squat about baseball.  A mild case of insomnia had me up at 5:00 AM watching Mike & Mike in the Morning.  They had some baseball writer on there who was saying some pretty sane things but he also came out with this notion.  The powers that be have to get involved in creating tests for HGH and so forth because, in part, we need to nip this atrocity in the bud re: high school players possibly getting on the juice these days.  And who better to spearhead this effort?  Why, the United States Congress of course.

Next thing you know John McCain is on there effectively parroting the same sky is falling message.

So, seriously, how important is it that we need Congress worrying about the 50 jocks (estimate on the way high end I think) in every 5A school who might take this stuff?  What about the 500+ kids who are abusing alcohol, buds and other legal/illegal drugs which certainly aren't appropriate for 15 year olds (if anyone when it comes to cocaine, heroin, etc.)?

Is this going to blow up into a huge over-reaction?

While it's important to fans, has revitalized the under-appreciated asterisk and is a prime ingredient in HOF debates/arguments is this really a matter of federal importance?  Why don't we tackle war, famine, disease, poverty, abuse, torture, crime, environmental change, etc. before we set our sights on the horror that is MLB and other professional sports?

[/wtf]

ub- the gubmint loves stuff like this because it distracts  j6p from noticing/thinking about the real problems out there, especially if j6p is a j6p fanboy (2 extreme examples from fgi spring to mind hehehe)

Seriously though what is the point of all this.  Big *goshdarn* surprise Brady Anderson did roids that one year he hit 50 hr out of nowhere.  I can't think of one fly by night 30 -40 hr season that isn't listed in the mitchell report.  Baseball allowed this to happen though so *fudge* em.  I could care less about baseball now and I agree the gov't should concern themselves with say the meth problem that is ruining entire communities for one.  And leave this mess for baseball to clean up themselves.

Not saying that he used roids. It's just another example of a glaring single-season anomaly due to cheating.

I wonder if any batter has gone an entire season using a corked bat without getting caught.

I agree.  To me this was one big waste of time, money, and resources, and I believe sometime in the near future, baseball will rue the public release of this information.
